Megan Redstall vs Maisey Rose Courtney Tips Preview

The women take centre stage in a quiet week for boxing betting when Megan Redstall meets Maisey Rose Courtney for the vacant WBO International flyweight title in Brentwood, Essex on Sunday with streaming on DAZN.

Odds opened at 5/6 pick ’em (same price for each boxer, take your pick) but money has been showing steadily for Redstall, pushing her number to 1/2.

Redstall has an unbeaten record (7-0-1, 1 KO). She’s a 25-year-old from Wiltshire and she has an interesting backstory in that she combines boxing with being a paramedic. Her ambition is to be able to box full time. If she beats Courtney she will take an important step forward in this direction.

This fight is big step up for Redstall but she has shown steady improvement after being held to a draw in only her third bout. However, that draw came against the much more experienced Inna Statkevych of Ukraine, who boxed in multiple international tournaments as an amateur, and Redstall was having her first bout in 20 months.

So, all things considered, boxing a draw with Statkevych wasn’t a terrible performance.

Since then Redstall has won five bouts in a row. She went 10 rounds for the first time in her last fight when she won every round against Kenya’s Consolata Musanga, who came in 7lbs overweight for the Commonwealth bantamweight title bout.

Redstall has moved down to 112lbs, feeling that flyweight is her natural poundage.

However, she was meeting a slow, wild-swinging opponent in Musanga. She faces a far more difficult fight against Londoner Courtney, who is also 25.

Courtney (9-1, 0 KOs) had amateur success on the UK domestic level. But Courtney lost in her biggest bout to date when the stylish, Polish-born Jasmina Zapotoczna clearly outpointed her in a 10-rounder.

That fight was two years ago. Courtney was the aggressor but looked far too hittable. Since then Courtney has had three routine six-rounders against opponents who weren’t on her level.

Megan Redstall vs Maisey Rose Courtney Top Tips

Megan Redstall - To Win By Decision or Technical Decision @ 8/11

Redstall and Courtney look evenly matched, as the opening odds would suggest.

Courtney is more aggressive in her approach, more willing to take risks.

Redstall, meanwhile, has a smooth, relaxed style.

It might not mean a lot, but Redstall is the A-side, promoted and managed by Top Tier’s John Clark.

Momentum seems to be with Redstall. She won a Commonwealth title in her last bout and she has promotional backing, while Courtney’s career seems to have stalled.

Each woman has ability but we saw Courtney struggle with Zapotoczna’s smart moves and precise punching, and Redstall is a similar type of boxer to the Polish woman.

And, coming down in weight, Redstall figures to be the physically stronger boxer.

The bet I like is Redstall to win by decision at 8/11. This is a fight of fine margins — but I think Redstall has more of those margins in her favour.
