A late goal from Amad Diallo saw the Ivory Coast kick off their World Cup campaign with a win over Ecuador in Philadelphia.
Ecuador secured passage to this summer's tournament with one of the best defensive records in all qualifying.
Sebastian Beccacece's side conceded just five goals from 18 games in CONMEBOL qualifying, and their impregnable back line held firm in the opening 45 minutes.
They had the better of the chances before the interval and hit the crossbar twice but were unable to find an opening.
Both teams made changes in the second half but an opening goal ultimately looked to have eluded them before the Manchester United winger opened the scoring with just 30 seconds left of normal time.
