The Hibees had some momentum on their side after Adam Mayor reduced their arrears to 2-1 early in the second half but Jack Iredale got himself sent off and Hearts were off the hook.
St Johnstone were worthy of a point against Dundee on Wednesday and had to scrap after falling behind on 87 minutes before Josh Fowler levelled just 120 seconds later.
Two of the last four Premiership meetings at McDiarmid Park have ended 1-1.
