Scottish Premiership Matchweek 2 Tips and Predictions

There is a top-of-the-table tussle to savour in the Scottish Premiership this weekend and it doesn't involve the Old Firm.

It might be very early in the season, but you can't deny the fact that it's St Mirren who are first and St Johnstone second in the Premiership ahead of their showdown in Paisley on Saturday.

Scottish Premiership

Dundee v Aberdeen

Saturday 8th August

Both teams to score - No @ 21/20

Dundee return to Dens Park after going down narrowly 1-0 at Celtic in their opener, a game in which they held their own.

They certainly looked tight defensively and will need to be against an Aberdeen side who have won five out of five competitively already this term, scoring at least two goals in every game.

Having said that, the Dons hardly landed many blows against Hearts last weekend before scoring two in added time to win 2-1.

This has the look of a tight, low-scoring encounter.

St Mirren v St Johnstone

Saturday 8th August

Henry Fieldson to score or assist @ 6/1

First plays second at St Mirren Park where Buddies' left-back Henry Fieldson can have another day to remember.

Sunderland graduate Fieldson, getting a run while Declan John is out, loves getting forward and had a shot and got an assist in last week's 2-0 win at Falkirk.

The Perth side shipped three in their 4-3 win over Kilmarnock, so back Fieldson to take advantage of gaps in the visitors' lines.

Kilmarnock v Celtic

Sunday 9th August

Celtic to win and under 3.5 goals @ 13/8

Kilmarnock have lost only one of their last 10 home games so could make life awkward for the champions.

And Celtic were a million miles from being convincing in their hard-earned 1-0 win over Dundee last weekend.

The champs should get another win at Rugby Park, but the bet might be for them to do so in a low-scorer.

Hearts v Dundee United

Sunday 9th August

Draw @ 7/2

Dundee United have had over a week to savour their Scottish Premiership season-opening 1-1 draw against Rangers, so head for Tynecastle feeling fresh and with spirits high.

Hearts, in contrast, have flown back from a Thursday night assignment at Benfica in the Europa League.

It has been a tough start for Wouter Vrancken's men and a snappy Tangerines are value to hold last season's runners-up to a draw.

Motherwell v Falkirk

Sunday 9th August

Lukas Fadinger 1+ shots on target @ 4/5

Lukas Fadinger hasfound the net in each of Motherwell's first three competitive games, so the Austrian clearly has his eye in.

Falkirk conceded 15 shots at home to St Mirren last week and were cut apart too easily, encouraging the idea that Fadinger can have another threatening day.

Rangers v Hibernian

Sunday 9th August

No goal before 25:00 @ 5/6

Hibernian took four points off Rangers after Christmas last season, drawing 0-0 at Easter Road and then winning 2-1 at Ibrox.

Those results were major blows to the 'Gers late run for glory, and once again this promises to be an awkward test for the Glasgow giants.

Both teams have been in Europe this week with Derek McInnes' men flying in and out of Poland for their Europa League tie against Jagiellonia.

Expect this to be a slow burner, Hibs to stay compact and tight and no goal before 25 minutes on the clock.
