Reported to have an exit clause in his contract to leave by 10th July, there is plenty of speculation regarding the future of Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray.
The 29-year-old has been somewhat of a nomad during his career, playing for the likes of Leicester City, Bayer Leverkusen, Everton, Al-Ettifaq and having two spells with Birmingham.
Signing a three-year deal with the Blues last year, Gray still has plenty of time on his current contract at St Andrew’s.
However, reports of an exit clause in his contract are believed to have caught the attention of potential suitors and Gray could have a number of options to leave his boyhood club before the deadline this summer.
Previously linked with a move for Gray, Sunderland could be one of the clubs keeping tabs on his situation in the West Midlands.
Sunderland raised eyebrows following their return to the Premier League, finishing in seventh place in their first campaign back in the top flight.
Qualifying for Europe will actually force the Black Cats to watch their spending even more closely due to Profit and Sustainability Rules and the Wearsiders will have be smart with their transfers this summer.
A player more than familiar with the demands of the Premier League following his spells with Leicester and Everton, Sunderland might well consider Gray a viable option this summer.
Wrexham have enjoyed a meteoric rise through the English football pyramid and only just missed out on the Championship play-off places last season.
The Red Dragons have shown no lack of ambition when it comes to signing top British talent and Gray’s ability going forward should interest the Welsh outfit.
Phil Parkinson is an experienced coach who can bring the best out of Gray and a potential move to the Racecourse Ground could be on the cards.
A big team in the Championship that are set to see a number of veteran attacking players move on to pastures new this summer, Sheffield United are another potential club for Gray this summer.
The Blades will be looking for pace and creativity to be brought into the squad and Gray is a combination of both.
His ability to play across the frontline would appeal to Sheffield United and Gray looks like a player who would fit in well at Bramall Lane under manager Chris Wilder.
No stranger to playing in different countries following previous spells in Germany and Saudi Arabia, a potential move to Scotland can’t be ruled out for Gray.
Of course, it’s the likely candidates of Rangers and Celtic who would lead the charge to try and lure Gray to the Scottish Premiership, although new challengers Hearts might also fancy a high-profile addition to their squad.
Set to turn 30-years-old on 28th June, Gray might well be attracted to a club that can offer him a significant chance of securing silverware or playing European football again before he hangs up his boots.
The three title contenders in Scotland could certainly offer that to a player who burst onto the scene at the age of 17 back in 2013.
