Burnley are on the verge of bolstering their rearguard with the loan signing of Manchester City defender Max Alleyne, according to a report.
A number of Championship clubs had expressed an interest in the 21-year-old, who spent a period of last season on loan at Watford and the Hornets were one of the second tier outfits keen on acquiring Alleyne on a temporary basis.
However, it appears Burnley have won the race for the prodigious centre-back.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on X: "Burnley agree deal to sign Max Alleyne. Deal done on straight loan, no buy option clause included. Alleyne will undergo medical tomorrow."
Alleyne featured in Enzo Maresca's travelling squad for Man City's pre-season tour of Asia and played 45 minutes of the second half against Inter Milan and K League All Stars.
It was expected Alleyne would be made available for loan again this season after his previous stint at Watford was drastically cut short in January due to an injury crisis at the Etihad Stadium.
Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and John Stones were all sidelined for Pep Guardiola and his parent club made the swift decision to recall Alleyne as the young defender went from preparing for a Championship fixture against Hull City to making his Premier League debut against Brighton in just 24 hours.
Alleyne scored in his next appearance in the FA Cup, but he soon experienced a baptism of fire as Man City suffered defeats to local rivals Manchester United and to Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League.
The Bristol-born centre-back still impressed during a testing period and Alleyne made seven appearances in all competitions for City before slipping down the pecking order as Guardiola's senior defenders returned from injury.
Signed from Southampton at the age of 16, Alleyne is highly-rated within the City setup and the eight-time Premier League winners were determined to provide the 21-year-old with regular first-team football to aid his development.

Alleyne had interest from Sheffield United and West Ham but Burnley proposed the best case, with Hayen's possession-oriented style likely to suit the ball-playing centre-back.
