England's Georgia Hunter Bell is set for another showdown against Lilian Odira over 800 metres as the pair battle for Commonwealth Games glory in Glasgow.
Odira pipped Hunter Bell to World Championship gold in Tokyo last year and the Kenyan has recorded a series of statement results in 2026, including her 1:56.19 at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon where she defeated Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson.
With Hodgkinson not present in Glasgow as she focuses on the upcoming European Championships in Birmingham, Odira and Hunter Bell are the two leading contenders where a new Commonwealth Games champion over two laps will be crowned.
A bronze medallist at the Paris Olympics in the 1500m two years ago, Hunter Bell has enjoyed a remarkable two years where she's established herself as one of the world's leading middle-distance runners.
The 32-year-old already has one gold to her name this year after winning her first global title in the World Indoor Championships’ 1500m, and she has been consistently excellent in the Diamond League.
Hunter Bell won Wednesday's second semi-final with a time of 1:59.88, while Odria ran a comfortable 2:01:05 to leave Friday's final finely poised.
St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Shafiqua Maloney, Botswana’s Oratile Nowe, and Jamaican Kelly-Ann Beckford will all fancy their chances of a medal in a hotly contested 800m field.
