Former Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew believes Martin O'Neill is "a good option" for the club.
O'Neill led the Bhoys to the Scottish Premiership title in the most dramatic fashion, leading to speculation that he may remain in charge for another year and his appointment now appears imminent.
There has been off-the-pitch turmoil at Parkhead for 12 months now, with a disappointing summer leading to Brendan Rodgers and later Wilfried Nancy both departing, but Mulgrew feels O'Neill is the safe pair of hands Celtic need in the short term.
Speaking exclusively to bet365 at the talkSPORT Padel World Cup, Mulgrew said: "A lot of things need sorting at Celtic, everybody knows that.
"I think Martin O'Neill staying for another year is a good option. It gives the club a year to sort things behind the scenes with a safe pair of hands at the wheel.
"Money needs to be spent on players. O'Neill produced a miracle last year, but there's a lot of players leaving and they need to spend money to bring quality in."
Hearts established themselves as unlikely favourites for the title and needed only a point on the final day to pip Celtic to the title, ultimately falling short, and Mulgrew hopes Derek McInnes's men are here to stay.
"It makes Scottish football so much better," he added. "I don't want them to win the league but I want them up there challenging and putting the cat amongst the pigeons because it's so much better for everybody.
"I went to the game [on the final day] with my son and my mate... emotional roller coaster. I said if Celtic didn't win the league I'd go for a pint in one of the Hearts pubs in Edinburgh, so the relief to not have to go there -- I might not be standing here now after some of the things I said!
"Amazing feeling at the end, the best feeling I've ever had as a fan at a football match, it was the closest you come to being on there and playing."
