Aston Villa have finally ended their 30-year trophy drought after conquering SC Freiburg 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League final.
On a famous night in Istanbul, two spectacular goals from Youri Tielemans and Emiliano Buendia handed Aston Villa a half-time lead they never looked like relinquishing before Morgan Rogers put the icing on the cake in the second half with a close-range finish.
Villa's supremacy over their Bundesliga opponents was evident throughout and Unai Emery was the mastermind as the Basque coach earned his fifth success in the competition after previous triumphs with Sevilla and Villarreal.
The Villans had already secured UEFA Champions League football before a ball was kicked in Turkey, but their Europa League glory could act as a springboard for future honours as Emery looks to build a glittering new chapter at Villa Park.
Dining at the top table of European football could well prove to be a major factor in the future of Morgan Rogers, who has attracted a glut of interest from a catalogue of clubs in the Premier League and the continent.
The financial reward for UEFA Champions League football will also be music to Emery's ears, with the former Arsenal boss forced to operate on an inferior budget to his rivals as Villa grappled with the constraints of PSR rules.
Villa have cemented their status as a Premier League top six outfit under Emery's supervision and with recruitment in the right areas, most notably at full-back and in attacking areas, the Second City outfit could have the tools to challenge those at the summit - just like they threatened earlier this season.
Emery's men had Arsenal worried through the festive period, but the effects of a congested schedule soon took their toll and Villa's unexpected title charge ultimately faded.
With the experience and knowledge of how to win a trophy, Villa's cohort of stars will be hungry for more and if the summer transfer window is a successful one, they will fancy themselves to bloody the noses of the teams that are the favourites for the Premier League title.
