Vernon Adams Jr. Injury Update & Return Timeline

2026 Most Outstanding Player candidate, Vernon Adams Jr., was unable to finish the game against the B.C. Lions after suffering an apparent head injury.

The Calgary Stampeders quarterback took off early in the fourth quarter, and his helmet struck the turf after he was tackled by two B.C. defenders. Medical staff rushed onto the field after the QB appeared unresponsive immediately after the hit, however, after receiving attention on the field, he got up and walked off under his own power.

The CFL's passing touchdowns leader (22) then watched the remainder of the fourth quarter from the sidelines, as his team fell to a 4-6 record after a 26-30 loss.

Before exiting the game, Adams passed for 148 yards (13/23) and one touchdown. Backup QB Josh Love came in to finish the game, passed for 58 yards and threw a late interception to seal defeat.

Love is expected to start the Stampeders next match against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday, August 29 after completing just eight passes in his CFL career before last week.

When will Vernon Adams Return to Play?

There is no official timeline for Adams' return. It is presumed that the QB has a concussion, and depending on the severity of the injury he could miss 2-6 six of action.

Running back Dedrick Mills also left the game with a head injury, and his status is also unknown at this time.

"I think both are going to be head injuries. Those can last a long time; you don’t know when they’re going to be healthy,” head coach Dave Dickenson told the media after the game, insinuating that Adams could spend multiple weeks on the sidelines.
