USMNT Generic - USA Soccer

Projecting the possible roster for team USA at the 2030 World Cup, with stars Folarin Balogun and Christian Pulisic still in their prime.

The United States Men's National Team crashed out of the 2026 World Cup in typical fashion, losing to a European team in the Round of 16. The USA is now 2-6 in Round of 16 matches, and have not won a match in the knockout round since 2002 when they defeated Mexico (Dos a Cero) in South Korea.

2030 will be the 100th anniversary of the prestigious tournament, and will also mark 100 years since the United States achieved their best ever finish at a World Cup, losing in semifinals.

The 2030 World Cup will be hosted primarily by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, while special celebratory opening matches will take place in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay due to Uruguay hosting the first tournament in 1930.

The United States will not have quite as much pressure on them as they did as a host nation, but to advance past the round of 16 they'll need their budding stars to turn into global superstars in four years time.

USMNT USA - 2026 World Cup

USA Goalkeepers

Holdovers: Matt Freese (31), Chris Brady (26)
New Faces: Diego Kochen (24)
In the Mix: Duran Ferree (23), Gaga Slonina (26), Roman Celentano (29)
Aging Out: Matt Turner (36)

Matt Turner will have aged out of his prime by the 2030 World Cup, but Matt Freese and Chris Brady will hypothetically still be in their peak years. Brady will have the chance to win the starting spot, but he'll have to fight off budding stars Diego Kochen, Gaga Slonina, and Duran Ferree for that spot.

Slonina has been highly touted as the next great American goalkeeper, but since joining Chelsea in 2022 from the Chicago Fire, he has only made 48 appearances (all on loan) which has slowed his development. If Slonina is able to earn consistent minutes he could find beat Kochen, the Barcelona youth goalkeeper to the final spot on the team.

If neither Kochen or Slonina are able to impress, San Diego FC's Ferree could easily earn that final spot.

USA Defenders

Holdovers: Chris Richards (29), Alex Freeman (25), Antonee Robinson (32), Auston Trusty (31), Sergino Dest (29)
New Faces: Peyton Miller (22), Josh Wynder (25), Noahkai Banks (23)
In the Mix: Joe Scally (27), Mark Mckenzie (31), Neil Pierre (22), Harbor Miller (23), John Tolkin (27), Jalen Neal (26), Luca Bombino (23)
Aging Out: Tim Ream (42), Miles Robinson (33),

Man fans thought Tim Ream had already aged out of the USMNT roster ahead of the 2026 World Cup, but the Charlotte FC defender made Mauricio Pochettino's team and donned the captain's armband.

Chris Richards, Alex Freeman, Antonee Robinson, Auston Trusty, and Sergino Dest will all still be in contention for a spot in 2030, with Robinson the eldest of the group at just 32-years-old in 2030. Richards and Freeman are the only locks for me, and the decisions will be largely up to the coach in a few years.

Possible newcomers to the team include New England Revolution left back Peyton Miller, Augsurg center back Noahkai Banks, and Benfica B defender Josh Wynder. Banks is eligible for both Germany and the USA, and he will be a crucial pickup for the USMNT who are in desperate need of quality center backs.

Other possible additions include highly rated Philadelphia Union defender Neil Pierre, who will 22 years old in 2030, and wingback Luca Bombino.

USA Midfielders

Holdovers: Weston McKennie (31), Tyler Adams (31), Malik Tillman (29), Sebastian Berhalter (29)
New Faces: Johnny Cardoso (28), Santiago Castaneda (25), Cavan Sullivan (20), Diego Luna (26), Rokas Pukstas (25)
In the Mix: Aidan Morris (28), Niko Tsakiris (25), Giovani Reyna (27), Tanner Tessman (28), Brendan Aaronson (29), Paxten Aaronson (26), Adri Mehmeti (21), Benjamin Cremaschi (25), Yunus Musah (27),
Aging Out: Cristian Roldan (35)

Cristian Roldan is the midfielder who will have definitely aged out of contention for a spot on the 2030 World Cup roster. Roldan did not play a single minute for the USA in 2026 due to picking up a muscle injury during training.

Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, and Malik Tillman are all likely to be included unless something drastic happens in the next four years. Sebastian Berhalter also offers incredible set-piece delivery which was lacking for the Americans when he was off the pitch.

New faces include Atletico Madrid midfielder Johnny Cardoso who missed out on the 2026 roster because he opted to surgically repair his ankle during the offseason, Santiago Castaneda, and 2026 snub Diego Luna.

Cavan Sullivan is still two years away from finally making a multi-million dollar move to Manchester City, meaning he'll have two years to develop with the Philadelphia Union before joining one of the best teams in Europe. If Sullivan progresses as scouts expect him to, he'll likely be making his World Cup debut at 20-years-old.

More young American midfielders with increasing potential include Rokas Pukstas, Niko Tsakiris, Benjamin Cremaschi, and Adri Mehmeti. Mehmeti has turned heads around MLS in 2026, becoming one of the New York Red Bulls most important players at just 17-years-old.

USA Forwards

Holdovers: Folarin Balogun (29), Christian Pulisic (31), Ricardo Pepi (27)
New Faces: Damion Downs (26), Zavier Gozo (23), Cole Campbell (24)
In the Mix: Timothy Weah (30), Patrick Agyemang (29), Josh Sargent (30), Julian Hall (22), Kevin Paredes (27), Mathis Albert (21)
Aging Out: Haji Wright (32), Alex Zendejas (32)

Folarin Balogun, Christian Pulisic, and Ricardo Pepi will still likely be some of the most important forwards for the USMNT in 2030. Pulisic, who will be 31 in four years, is a strong candidate to be the team captain. However, his injury issues persist, the right winger could lose his place to one of the many budding stars in the USYNT ranks.

Some of the brightest young wingers include Real Salt Lake winger Zavier Gozo, and Borussia Dortmund's American duo of Cole Campbell and Mathis Albert.

Damion Downs is a leading candidate to be one of the striker options in 2030, but he'll have to battle another bright New York teenager Julian Hall, and veterans Patrick Agyemang and Josh Sargent.

Tim Weah will be 30-years-old in 2030, not aging out of contention but he'll surely need to impress the head coach in a few years to beat Gozo and Campbell to one of the final winger spots.
