Mexico will be making history at the 2026 World Cup as the first nation to host the prestigious international tournament three times. Mexico will host the World Cup along with the United States and Canada, after previously hosting the tournament in 1986 and 1970.
The past two times Mexico has hosted the World Cup, the nation achieved it's highest ever finishes. In both instances Mexico reached the quarterfinal of the tournament.
El Tricolor are a part of the Concacaf Football Confederation, which is made up of North and Central America, plus the Caribbean Islands.
At the 2026 World Cup, Mexico will be without their starting goalkeeper Luis Malagon, so fans could see 40-year-old Mexican legend Guillermo "Memo" Ochoa named to his six World Cup squad.
If Ochoa is selected by head coach Javier Aguirre, he would join Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the only players to ever play in six different World Cup tournaments.
Mexico will participate in Group A at the World Cup this year, facing South Africa, the Korea Republic, and the winner of Czechia, Denmark, North Macedonia, and the Republic of Ireland in UEFA's World Cup playoff tournament.
