Trae Young was traded from the Atlanta Hawks to the Washington Wizards for C.J. McCollum and Corey Kispert on Jan. 9, but he's yet to suit up for the Wiz.
Young is recovering from MCL and quad injuries to his right leg and most recently played in a game on Dec. 27.
Overall on the season, Young has only played in 10 games - and hasn't looked great. He's averaging 19.3 points (lowest since his rookie year) and 8.9 assists per game while shooting 41.5% from the field and 30.5% from three - an eFG% of 48.1.
He had a miserable shooting season last year as well, having an eFG% of 49.1 (41.1% from the field, 34% from three).
His declining offensive play, combined with poor defensive play and an injury history led to the trade of 4x All-Star and former franchise cornerstone.
The Wizards will hope the 27-year-old can get back to his old ways, such as when he averaged 28.4 points and shot 38% from three in 2021-22.
On Jan. 14, Shams Charania reported that the 10-32 Wizards will not rush Young back onto the court and will reevaluate him after the All-Star break.
The break, happening from Feb. 13 - Feb. 18, should ensure that he's fully healthy and good to go. While the Wizards won't rush him back, they would certainly enjoy seeing Young get some experience with his teammates for the foreseeable future.
Young has a player-option on his contract after this year, but the Wiz wouldn't have traded for him if they don't believe they can re-sign him.
