Russell Westbrook has announced his retirement from professional basketball, leaving the NBA as a 10 time All-NBA player, and one time MVP.
Westbrook, 37, announced his retirement on Wednesday, August 12. The nine time All-Star is untying the laces on his career and 18 seasons in the NBA spanning seven different teams.
Westbrook was drafted fourth overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Seattle Supersonics, but before he could play a game for the franchise they moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder. The athletic guard from UCLA was named to the 2008-09 All-Rookie First Team, averaging 15.3 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.9 rebounds in 32.5 minutes per game. He finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting.
Westbrook last played for the Sacramento Kings in the 2025-26 season before announcing his retirement.
