Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has officially announced his withdrawal from the upcoming US Open, citing an ongoing knee issue.
Sinner confirmed the news through his social media channels, explaining the difficult choice made with his team. "Although I have been working hard with my team and my personal doctor, we had to make the difficult decision not to compete at the US Open this year," he stated. "We got back on court in Monte Carlo over the last few days and realized that I still need more time to recover from the right knee problem. I am obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York holds a special place in my heart. I was looking forward to coming back and playing in the electric atmosphere in front of their great fans."
While Sinner will be absent from New York, his rival Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed his participation. The Spaniard chose a unique way to announce his return, collaborating with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano and using his famous "Here we go!" catchphrase. However, with Sinner's knee problems persisting, the highly anticipated clash between the two young talents has been postponed.
After a thorough evaluation of the knee injury, Sinner and his medical staff have opted for a cautious approach. The primary goal is to ensure a full recovery and return to peak physical condition in time for the ATP Finals in Turin, which are scheduled for mid-November.
