With the 2026 World Cup wrapping up, the MLS is officially back with the Cascadia Derby between the Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers.
MLS has taken a summer break during the World Cup, but ahead of the 2026 World Cup Final between Spain and Argentina, the league is getting back underway.
The Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers are both eager to get back to MLS action, particularly for one of the fiercest rivalries in the league.
The Sounders and Timbers each sent one player each to the World Cup this summer, with Cristian Roldan representing Seattle for the United States Men's National Team, and Finn Surman representing Portland for the New Zealand National Team.
Seattle (7-3-3) currently sit sixth in the Western Conference, seven spots ahead of a disappointing Portland team (4-2-8) who sit in 13th.
The Sounders will host the Timbers at Lumen Field on Thursday, July 16th.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM PT (10:30 PM ET).
Seattle are carrying a significant amount of injuries into the restart of MLS play, including rotational players such as Cristian and Alex Roldan, Pedro De la Vega, Yeimar Gomez, and Nikola Petkovic.
C. Roldan did not make an appearance for the USMNT at the World Cup due to a quad strain suffered during a training session in June.
Portland have far fewer injuries, but will still be without Juan Mosquera and Omir Fernandez.
Seattle is heavily favored in the Cascadia Derby at home.
