Pep Guardiola Will Reportedly Leave Manchester City this Summer

Pep Guardiola is widely considered the greatest coach of this generation, and it is reported that he will step down from his position at the conclusion of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Premier League title or not, Pep Guardiola is expected to step down from Manchester City at the conclusion of this season, with former assistant and Chelsea Manager Enzo Maresca expected to be his successor.

Guardiola has won 20 trophies with Manchester City following the clubs FA Cup win over Chelsea last Saturday, and has left a major impression on the Premier League eerily similar to that of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Guardiola arrived in Manchester a decade ago after dominating stints with Barcelona and Bayern Munich. City earned 100 points in his second Premier League season, breaking Chelsea's record of 95 points set under Jose Mourinho, who was recently announced as Real Madrid's new manager next season.

The season after that, Pep led City to another Premier League winning campaign (98 points) and a domestic quadruple.

In 2019/20 Manchester City finished second in the Premier League to Liverpool, but would win four consecutive titles after that, and a UEFA Champions League victory in 2022/23 over Inter Milan.

City finished second third last season behind Liverpool and Arsenal, and now sit in second behind Arsenal with two matches remaining. The Spanish coach still has a year left on his contract, but his time in charge looks to be coming to and end.

Who is Pep Guardiola's Successor, Enzo Maresca?

Reports suggest that Manchester City will appoint Italian manager Enzo Maresca as the clubs next manager.

Maresca was an assistant and youth coach under Guardiola at Manchester City before earning a head coaching position with Leicester City. After one English Second Division Championship winning season at Leicester Maresca earned the head coaching role at Chelsea FC.

Maresca won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea in just a season and a half before being relieved of his duties in charge.

Now 46-years-old, Maresca is a very capable successor to Pep after learning most of what he knows under the legendary manager. He is familiar with both Pep's tactics and coaching strategies, and the intricacies of working at Manchester City.

Maresca did not begin a new role after being let go by Chelsea on January 1st, 2026, and is available to begin the role as soon as the club gets back from their offseason break.

Expect Maresca to be appointed soon after Guardiola officially steps down.
