With the 2026 World Cup wrapping up, the MLS is officially back with El Trafico, LA Galaxy vs. LAFC.
MLS has taken a summer break during the World Cup, but ahead of the 2026 World Cup Final between Spain and Argentina, the league is getting back underway.
LA Galaxy and LAFC will both be eager to get back to MLS action, particularly for one of the closest rivalries in the league.
LAFC sent four players to the World Cup this summer, compared to the Galaxy's zero. Those players included South Korea's Son Heung-Min, and the Canadian trio of Stephen Eustaquio, Mathieu Choiniere, and Jacob Shaffelburg. Eustaquio started four of the five games the Canada national team played at the World Cup.
LAFC (7-3-5, 24 pts.) currently sit fifth in the Western Conference, four spots ahead of the Galaxy (5-5-5, 20 pts.) who sit in 9th.
The Galaxy will host their cross-town rivals at Dignity Health Sports Park on Friday, July 17th.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:25 PM PT (10:25 PM ET).
Both teams are dealing with minor injuries exiting the World Cup break.
The Galaxy will be without their talisman João Klauss, who is still recovering from a foot injury sustained in April of this year. The 29-year-old score five goals in eight games before going down with the injury.
LAFC will be without Timothy Tillman (brother of USMNT midfielder Malik Tillman) and Sergi Palencia who were both injured in training yesterday.
