Nicknamed "Paige Buckets," Bueckers sets herself apart with her agility, quickness and ability to make the right read on any given play, whether that be a shot or pass.

Bueckers entered the 2024/25 season as one of the nation's top players and the likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

Still, Bueckers, who missed much of her sophomore season and her entire 2022/23 season with knee injuries, had to prove her durability while trying to help UConn end its nine-year title drought.

Bueckers played and started in all 38 games, leading UConn to an undefeated 18-0 record in Big East conference play, Big East Tournament championship, and a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament.

While many of her career bests came in her freshman season, Bueckers posted similar averages as a senior despite playing 30.3 minutes per game, compared to 36.1 minutes per game as a freshman.

Like all great players do, Bueckers elevated her game when it mattered most in March.

Situated in the same region as top-seed USC and phenom JuJu Watkins, Bueckers and UConn had a difficult road ahead if they were to snap the Huskies' title drought.

UConn went on to win every tournament game by 14 points or more, including a 34-point rout of UCLA in the Final Four and 23-point drubbing of defending champions South Carolina in the title game.

In the Round of 32, 16 and 8, Bueckers scored 105 points across three games (35 PPG), and her tournament averages in points, steals, blocks and 3-point percentage all rose from the regular season.

Bueckers is the runaway -370 favorite to win 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year entering the season.

bet365 also has markets live for Bueckers' scoring milestones - Paige is +750 to score 40+ points in any regular season game, and +2500 to score 50+ points in a game.

Paige Bueckers Playing Style and Strengths

Bueckers is an all-around point guard, but her best attribute, as evidenced by her "Paige Buckets" nickname, is scoring the basketball.

The UConn product has three-level scoring ability and is incredibly efficient, always getting to her spots for high-percentage looks. In college, Bueckers finished her college career with the highest PPG average (19.8) in UConn history, per ESPN - a remarkable record given the Hall of Famers that have played for the Huskies.

She is also the first college player in the 21st century to shoot 50-40-85 (FG%, 3P% and FT%) while averaging at least 15+ PPG.

In simpler terms, Bueckers is one of the most efficient, effective scorers of the basketball to ever come into the WNBA.

Bueckers might not be coming into the league with the same long-range shooting and passing ability as Caitlin Clark, who she is likely to be compared to for the duration of her pro career. But her ability to fill up the cup and make high-IQ will allow her to have an instant impact with the Wings.

Paired with her unique ability to put the ball in the hoop is Bueckers' outstanding emotional maturity and poise on the court. Former head coach Geno Auriemma has lauded Bueckers' maturity on the court, with the now-WNBA rookie rarely showing signs of frustration or anger.

Paige Bueckers in the WNBA Landscape

Bueckers is a special talent that many basketball fans and analysts have projected for WNBA stardom since she was a teenager.

As the first No. 1 overall pick to enter the WNBA since Caitlin Clark's record-breaking rookie season in 2024, Bueckers will face comparisons to the Indiana Fever star due to their similar playing style and position. Like the rest of the WNBA did with Clark, Bueckers will likely be challenged throughout her rookie season with increased physicality, fouling, and trash talk.

Off the court, Bueckers is a businesswoman, philanthropist and influencer.

The 23-year-old already has endorsement deals with companies such as Gatorade, Nike, Verizon, Dunkin' Donuts and more. She has her own foundation and has previously been outspoken on social issues in the United States. Bueckers serves as a fashion and lifestyle icon for many young girls and basketball fans around the country, who saw her blossom from a high school prospect to now beginning her WNBA career.
