Caitlin Clark won the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Award as she led the Indiana Fever to a 20-20 record and its first playoff berth since 2016.

She ended the season tied with veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell for the team lead in points per game, and her 8.4 assists and 5.6 turnovers per game were both the highest in the league.

Clark scored 30 points or more in four games as a rookie. The first was in her eighth career game against the Las Vegas Aces, the second was four games later against the Washington Mystics, the third was against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky in late August, and the last was in the second-to-last game of the regular season against the Dallas Wings.

In the playoffs, the Fever played a Connecticut Sun team stacked with veterans in the first round. Indy lost the best-of-three series in two games. Clark averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.5 assists to 2.5 turnovers, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 block while shooting 35.0 percent overall and 20.0 percent from three.

Caitlin Clark Playing Style and Strengths

Clark is one of the most talented scorers and passers to ever play for the Fever and in the WNBA.

Known primarily for her long-range three-point shooting and incredible passing and vision, Clark’s strengths all compliment each other, making her an incredibly difficult player to guard.

Clark's shooting serves in part as a way to open up passing lanes and scoring opportunities for her teammates. The further out from the basket she can make shots, the more space her teammates have around the basket thanks to Clark drawing a defender or two way out past the three-point line.

Clark is not just a three-point shooter, with the Iowa product a proven scorer at all three levels – beyond the arc, in the mid-range, and in the paint. Her instinctive decision making is second-to-none in the women’s game.

Clark is also aggressive on the defensive boards, having averaged five or more in all four seasons at Iowa and 5.7 in her first pro season.

One area of Clark's game that she will look to improve in 2025 is her physicality. As a rookie, Clark's high profile and playmaking threat made her a regular target of aggressive defense and fouling. She's been pictured in the lead-up to the new season in improved physical shape, something many professional players early in their career look to improve.

At times, efficiency and turnovers are also considered weaknesses in her game, although Clark's turnover numbers (5.6 per game as a rookie) will often be high as a result of the risky passes she makes.

Caitlin Clark in the WNBA Landscape

Clark proved she can hang at the WNBA level in her stellar rookie year, but she is still regarded as a rising star in terms of her on-court ability.

The 23-year-old is already the most famous active WNBA player. She has a $5 million net worth, according to Parade Magazine, largely thanks to endorsements from Gatorade, Nike, Wilson, State Farm, and others. That makes her one of the richest players in the league.

Clark's superstardom has sparked some debate around the league as to who should get credit for blazing the trail that allows women athletes to become superstars, but her appeal — especially in the Midwest region of the United States — has seen the sport grow exponentially in popularity.
