Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Nolan Arenado was out of the lineup on Wednesday, May 27th after exiting the previous game early with an injury.
Arenado had some tightness in his groin, and while he hasn't been put on the IL, he's being listed as day-to-day by the D-backs.
The 10x Gold Glove winner was "removed from the game for right groin tightness," manager Torey Lovullo said. According to Luvullo, Arenado told him, "I can go out and keep playing if you want me to."
Ultimately, the manager wanted to "be smart" about it and "see how he feels tonight [May 26] and tomorrow morning [May 27]."
Obviously, it seems as though Arenado wasn't feeling ready to play in the afternoon game against the San Francisco Giants today.
Overall however, his injury does not seem like much cause for concern. After the game, Arenado described that his groin felt "a little tight right now, but I didn't feel like a pull or anything...it was more precautionary than anything."
Despite not returning today, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Arenado back on the field on Friday, May 29th against the Seattle Mariners after the club's off-day on Thursday.
Arenado has enjoyed a bounce-back season in his first year with Arizona after he had his worst offensive season of his career last year in St. Louis. The 35-year-old had just a .666 OPS in 107 games last year - he's bumped that number up to .809 while still playing terrific defense.
Arizona (30-24) is in the midst of a four-game winning streak as Ketel Marte has started to finally heat up, and Corbin Carroll is playing at an MVP level.
