Milwaukee Brewers look to take the series at home against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday after winning the opener emphatically, by a count of 22-0.
If you’re the Mariners, how do you even come back to the field today? Seattle sits 59-67 and 6-9 in August amidst a mighty disappointing season, after losing in the ALCS last October.
Meanwhile, the Brewers sit atop the National League Central and own baseball’s best record at 78-48. They too lost in the championship series last October.
Tuesday was the first meeting between these teams in 2026, and the rest of the series will be it for their clashes this season.
We have a good pitching matchup on tap, as two lanky right-handed hurlers take the mound in the form of Logan Gilbert for the Mariners and Dustin May for the Brewers.
With that, let’s break down our three best bets!
If there’s any guy the Mariners want on the mound after a 22-0 loss, it’s Logan Gilbert. He has been with this organization his whole career, and he has been consistently great for now his sixth straight season.
Owning a 3.28 ERA, .99 WHIP and 152 strikeouts, Gilbert has already pitched to a 3.2 bWAR, which ties a career-best.
More importantly, he has been outstanding on the road, pitching to a 2.25 ERA in 2026. And against this Brewers roster, he has 22 strikeouts and 10 hits allowed in 57 at-bats.
He has also done some of his best work against baseball’s elite. He blanked the Yankees in New York last time out over six innings. He allowed two runs to the AL-best Rays before that and he shutout the White Sox over six innings back in May.
The Mariners offense has struggled all season long and rank just 22nd on the road with a .691 OPS, but Dustin May has struggled outside of Busch Stadium this year, pitching to an ERA over 5.
With Brendan Donovan healthy and rocking an OPS north of .900 against right-handed pitching, he can provide a spark for power bats like Randy Arozarena, Dominic Canzone and Cole Young, the three other bats in the Mariners lineup with an OPS above .700 vs RHP.
It may seem unlikely given Tuesday's score, but there could be value in siding with the Mariners to bounce back.
We just ran through Gilbert’s acumen, and while May has struggled outside Busch Stadium this year, his first two starts as a Brewer since coming over at the trade deadline have gone well.
Not to mention, the Mariners rank 22nd vs RHP with a .705 OPS and 23rd from the left side of the plate with a .695 OPS.
The Brewers are one of the best offenses at home and against RHP, but of course they are, because they have the best record in baseball. The thing is that they are dead last in home runs, and they only hit four yesterday while scoring 22 runs.
Against Gilbert, you have to hit the ball out of the yard. He has given up 19 home runs in 145.1 innings, which isn’t that bad, but he has only allowed 111 hits and has issued just 33 walks.
The Mariners are not reliable enough to click “Over” and the Brewers don’t have enough thump against a consistent gamer in Gilbert.
I love the value here. Dustin May allows a .732 OPS to left-handed hitters as opposed to .587 vs right-handed hitters. Canzone is equally good away from home, ripping an .831 OPS, and has 10 of his 19 home runs away from Seattle.
Canzone is the only qualified left-handed hitter in the Mariners’ lineup with an OPS over .800, with 15 of his 19 home runs coming vs RHP. And he’s +510 to go deep!
Canzone can hit his 20th home run of the year tonight and help lead the Mariners to victory in the process.
