The Atlanta Braves are drinking in the last chance saloon as they host the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the National League Division Series knowing that defeat will see them eliminated.
The Braves will send Tyler Mahle to the hill as they look to keep their postseason dreams alive while Los Angeles will hand the ball to Tyler Glasnow for his first start in this year’s playoffs.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched a seven-inning gem in the Dodgers’ 3-1 win in Game 3 of this National League Division Series, putting Los Angeles just one win away from the NLCS.
The Braves need a win to stay alive and look a tempting price on the Money Line to get the job done. They failed to get anything going against Yamamoto but this has been a close series throughout and it is impossible to rule out Atlanta bouncing back in Game 4.
Tyler Mahle has been lights-out since arriving from the San Francisco Giants mid-season, with a 1.99 ERA across his nine regular-season starts for his new team, before holding the Philadelphia Phillies to one run from his seven innings of work in his first postseason outing.
By contrast, the Dodgers’ Tyler Glasnow, who struggled with a back injury this year, is having his first start since September 24 and has a 5.24 ERA from his last four starts.
The Braves also have an impressive record at home this season, they went 52-29 in the regular season at Truist Park, and could have more success against Glasnow than they did Yamamoto.
Take Atlanta, who won five of their six regular season games against the Dodgers, to bounce back with a win to keep the series alive.
One of the major sources of disappointment for the Dodgers in the second half of this season and now the playoffs has been the performances of Shohei Ohtani, who is struggling with a right bicep and a left knee issue.
The Japanese megastar has only one RBI and no home runs since August 19 and he has managed just one extra-base hit in his last 16 games.
The Dodgers have dropped Ohtani down the lineup as he continues to struggle, going 2-for-10 with a pair of singles and three strikeouts in this series.
The 32-year-old has struggled to hit Braves starter Tyler Mahle in his career too, going 1-for-12 with four strikeouts against him.
Ohtani’s injury issues look unlikely to be solved overnight and as they continue to impact his game it’s worth taking the under on his total bases.

Tyler Glasnow’s walk-rate, which has been impressive throughout his career, has slowly started to tick up in recent seasons. The veteran averaged 4.3 walks per nine innings last year and 3.0 this season.
The Dodgers’ starter has walked 11 batters in his last four starts and is facing what has been the most patient team in the postseason.
Atlanta’s 25 walks in six playoff games is some nine clear of the next best and their approach at the plate could pay off against Glasnow, so take him to walk two or more hitters.
