Shohei Ohtani signed the largest contract in American sports history when he inked a 10-year, $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers after the 2023 MLB season.
He deferred $680 million of his salary until after his contract expires, meaning he will earn $2 million per season during his contract and will receive $68 million annually from 2034-2043. He did this to give the Dodgers more spending flexibility while he is on the team.
Ohtani signed a one-year, $30,000,000 contract with the Los Angeles Angels in 2022. Before that, he had signed an entry-level deal with the Angels when he first joined MLB.
