Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres are set for Game 3 of the NLDS on Tuesday night at Petco Park in San Diego.
The Brewers have taken a 2-0 lead in this series with a pair of dramatic wins.
The series now shifts to Petco Park in San Diego with the home team looking to find any sort of momentum before it’s too late.
First pitch is slated for 9:30p.m. ET on FS1.
The Padres are undoubtedly happy to see this series move out of Milwaukee and to San Diego. The Padres suffered a pair of narrow defeats in Milwaukee, and the argument can be made that they could really be up 2-0 in this series. But instead they are down 2-0 heading into a make-or-break Game 3.
The Padres have been great at home all season. They posted a stellar record of 51-30 at Petco Park throughout the course of the regular season, and dominated their two games against the Cubs at home in the wild card round. San Diego out-scored Chicago 12-1 in a two-game sweep, and have to feel confident handing the ball to Nick Pivetta.
Pivetta posted a minuscule 1.45 ERA over four starts in the month of September. He has been especially accurate in recent outings, allowing just four total walks over his last 22.0 innings of work while racking up 22 strikeouts in that span. The Padres have won each of his last six starts, and seem to be in a solid position to extend that streak to seven.
The Brewers will hand the ball to Dustin May. The 29-year-old right-hander has some pretty stark home/road splits, as his ERA jumps from 3.94 at home to 5.88 on the road this season. Furthermore, his BAA goes from .234 at home to .290 on the road. Toeing the rubber on the road in this one, he seems to be in a tough spot.
Playing at home, the Padres are the team to back on the moneyline.
With a low total of 7, the over is worth considering.
May has struggled mightily on the road all throughout 2026. Along with seeing an increased ERA and BAA on the road, he has also allowed 10 home runs in 56.2 road innings this season. For comparison, he has given up just four home runs in 89.0 innings of work from the comfort of his home ballpark. The Padres hit four homers over two games vs the Cubs in the wild card round, and could be in line to do some damage against May.
With this being the third game of the series, each team has had a chance to see the opposing bullpen arms on each side. That gives both lineups a chance to get more familiar with what each reliever brings to the table, and find a better way to attack at the plate.
After seeing the first two games of this series stay under the total, things could open up a bit more in Game 3.
