Seattle Mariners head to Arlington on Friday night to begin a pivotal three-game AL West series against the first-place Texas Rangers.
Only a half game separates these two, and the Rangers lead the season series 4-2 thus far.
Bryce Miller gets the ball for the Mariners after putting together an outstanding campaign, carrying a 2.27 ERA into Friday's matchup. Texas counters with offseason acquisition MacKenzie Gore, who has flashed his usual swing-and-miss arsenal but has struggled to consistently limit damage, posting a 4.80 ERA through his first 19 starts.
This projects as one of the best series this weekend, and there are several betting angles worth targeting in Friday night's opener. First pitch is at 8:10 PM ET, and we have three best bets in store for you to lock in before then.
At first glance, this looks like a coin-flip matchup between two division rivals vying for division supremacy. Digging a little deeper, though, Texas has the edge with some enticing value to snag.
While Miller has emerged as one of the American League's most reliable starters with precision command and a fastball that has generated weak contact throughout the season, he hasn’t quite been as dominant on the road (3.34 ERA vs a .95 ERA at home).
Look even closer, and it's been more rough as of late, allowing four earned runs to the Marlins in his most recent road start, and three earned runs to the Pirates prior to that.
And while the sample size is small, Miller has struggled against the Rangers, surrendering a .379 AVG and 1.264 OPS in 29 at-bats, including three doubles and three home runs. Evan Carter has taken him deep twice in three at-bats, and Josh Jung has once while going 4-for-7 off of Miller.
Ironically, Miller will be pitching just a couple of hours from his hometown of Mount Pleasant, Texas, adding another layer of angst in an important divisional series.
On the other side, MacKenzie Gore has been WAY better at home (3.44 ERA vs 6.02 ERA on the road), owns an excellent 2.35 career ERA against Seattle and has allowed just a .224 AVG and .711 OPS against these Mariner hitters in 58 at-bats.
Not to mention, Seattle’s offense ranks 23rd in road OPS (.685) and dead last in OPS vs left-handed pitching (.635).
Texas is 25-24 at home, and Seattle is just 21-29 on the road.
So with that in mind, Texas are backed in this series opener.
Miller has been worse on the road, but it’s still a real solid 3.34 ERA. Seattle has been involved in plenty of lower-scoring games whenever he takes the mound, and he'll face a Rangers lineup that has been inconsistent despite sitting atop the division.
Texas ranks just 19th in home OPS (.713) and 20th in OPS vs RHP (.710).
Also, both starting shortstops are banged up. Corey Seager is out and J.P. Crawford is day-to-day with a wrist injury and their veteran presence missing from their respective lineups limits offensive ceilings. Brendan Donovan is also out, and Josh Jung is questionable tonight for Texas.
If you’re into trends, five of the six meetings between these two teams in 2026 have resulted in seven runs or fewer.
The biggest concern for this Under is Gore's volatility. If his command deserts him early, Seattle could put together a crooked inning.
Still, Gore's strikeout ability gives him enough upside to navigate trouble, and his career success against Seattle suggests he could keep the Mariners in check for at least the first five or six innings.
As long as Miller delivers another quality start, this game has all the ingredients of a 4-2 or 3-2 final.
I mean, why not take a flyer on a guy who has two home runs off of Bryce Miller in three career at-bats? At +750, way down there on the board, this is the play.
Yes, Carter is hitting just .191 on the season with eight home runs and a .643 OPS, but this is still an uber-talented 23-year-old. He has been at his best at home, at night and in July, rocking an .869 OPS with two long balls in 33 at-bats so Carter gets the nod here.
