McLaren F1: Constructors Profile

All you need to know about the McLaren F1 team.

McLaren are coming off back-to-back Constructors' Championships, and saw driver Lando Norris win his first Individual World Championship in 2025.

In 2024, McLaren won their first Constructors' Championship since 1998, and in 2025 Norris won the first Individual Championship since Lewis Hamilton in 2008.

The Papayas are based in Woking, England, and are one of the most successful Formula 1 teams in the history of the sport.

McLaren entered the sport in 1966 under the control of Bruce McLaren. Bruce was a New Zealand Racing driver, automotive designer, and engineer who competed in F1 from 1958-1970.

Bruce created McLaren in 1953, and the company joined F1 three years later. Since their introduction to the sport, McLaren has won 10 Championships,

Bruce McLaren passed away at the age of 32 when his car crashed during a race in 1970, but his legacy lives on in the Papaya colored car.

McLaren's most decorated drivers include Aryton Senna, Alain Prost, who won three World Championships each in the late 1980s and early 90s.

Current Drivers

After a tense battle for the Drivers' Championship, both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are tied down to multi-year contracts.

Lando Norris

26-year-old Lando Norris just won his first World Drivers' Championship in 2025 and will now look to defend his title in 2026 with McLaren again.

Norris has won 11 Grand Prix across seven seasons, including seven in 2025.

Norris is contracted through 2027 with McLaren, and makes roughly $20 million per year.

Oscar Piastri

24-year-old Australian driver Oscar Piastri will return to McLaren for a fourth year, and has helped the team win two consecutive constructors championships.

Piastri is contracted until at least 2028, although there have been rumors the Australian may seek a move away from McLaren amidst growing disillusion at team orders in his title fight with Norris.

Team Principal

Andrea Stella

Andrea Stella became McLaren's team principal in 2023, and has overseen back-to-back Constructors' Championships, and Lando Norris' Individual World Championship in 2025.

Stella was previously the head of race operations at McLaren before becoming the team principal.

At 54, the Italian Principal is considered one of the best minds in Formula 1.

Ownership

McLaren's F1 team is primarily owned by by Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund, Mumtalakat Holding Company, and Abu Dhabi's CYVN Holdings.

Mumtalakat and CYVN bought out all of the minority shareholders in 2025 to simplify the companies structure.

Zak Brown is the CEO of McLaren Racing, and holds a lot of power within the team.
