Ferrari F1: History, Records, Drivers, Principal & Ownership

All you need to know about the Ferrari F1 team.

The Scuderia Ferrari F1 team is the most successful and popular F1 constructor in the history of the sport.

The Ferrari red is inseparable from F1 Racing, and is a symbol of speed.

Ferrari took part in the inaugural F1 Championship campaign in 1950, and raced their first grand Prix in Monaco that season.

Many of the most notable drivers in the history of the sport have driven a Ferrari, including Alberto Ascari, Nikki Lauda, Michael Schumacher, and now, Lewis Hamilton.

Schumacher won five consecutive world championships between 2000-2004, and cemented himself in Ferrari history. At the time, five consecutive championships was the most ever won by single driver in the history of F1 before it was broken by Hamilton with Mercedes.

The Ferrari F1 team is based in Maranello, Italy.

Current Drivers

Ferrari confirmed that they will be running back their 2025 duo of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc in 2026.

Lewis Hamilton

Sir Lewis Hamilton, 40, was the first Black F1 driver, and is one of the most decorated drivers in F1 history.

The British driver made his F1 debut in 2007 with McLaren and finished his rookie season with the same amount of points as the championship winner. Hamilton then won his first championship in 2008.

In 2013, Lewis signed with Mercedes and won six more championships between 2014-2020.

The Brit stayed with Mercedes until 2024, before signing a contract with Ferrari.

Hamilton has won a joint-record seven Formula One Drivers' Championship titles- tied with Michael Schumacher - and holds the record for most wins (105), pole positions (104), and podium finishes (202).

Charles Leclerc

Leclerc, 28, made his debut in 2018 with Sauber, and Joined Ferrari in 2019.

In his first year with Ferrari, Leclerc became the youngest Ferrari driver to score a pole position, and won his first Grand Prix in Belgium.

The driver from Monaco achieved his highest championship finish in 2022, finishing second to Max Verstappen.

Team Principal

Frederic Vasseur

Vasseur has been the team principal and general manager of the Scuderia Ferrari team since 2022.

Vasseur founded the ART Grand Prix team, which won multiple championships in various junior series, and also founded Spark Racing Technolog.

The 57-year-old was previously the team principal for Renault, Sauber, and Alfa Romeo.

Ownership

Scuderia Ferrari is operated by the luxury car company, Ferrari.

68% of Ferrari is owned by public shareholders.

Exor N.V. owns 21% of the company, and Vice Chairman of Ferrari, Piero Ferrari owns the other 11% of the team.
