Marlins vs. Red Sox: Prediction, Props & Best Bets

Boston Red Sox and Miami Marlins are set for an interleague matchup on Monday night at LoanDepot Park.

The Red Sox enter this contest with an overall record of 71-59. That puts them firmly in the second American League wild card spot, with a 6.5 game cushion over the Rangers and Guardians.

On the other side, the Marlins are 67-64 and sit four games back in the hunt for the second wild card spot in the National League. Miami aren't out of it yet, but time to make a move is slipping away.

First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET.

Red Sox vs. Marlins betting picks and predictions

Red Sox ML (-129)

The Red Sox continue to be one of the hottest teams in baseball.

They went through a bit of a rough patch once their historic 15-game win streak was snapped last month, losing five games in a row, but it's clear that they have gotten back on track since then.

Boston is 7-3 over its last 10 games and enters this series coming off a weekend sweep over San Francisco. On the other side, the Marlins are just 5-5 in their last 10 games.

Ranger Suarez toes the rubber for Boston. The veteran left-hander has some significant home/road splits on the season and has actually been much better away from Boston.

Specifically, Suarez is sporting a 2.75 ERA through 11 road starts. Conversely, he owns a 4.14 ERA over the course of 11 home starts.

Suarez is on the road for this one, and will face a Miami lineup that has an OPS under .700 in August.

The Marlins are fairly middle-of-the-pack when it comes to hitting lefties and rank 20th in MLB in terms of total runs scored in August. So, Suarez could be catching them at the right time.

The Red Sox tend to win when Suarez pitches. Boston has won six of his last seven starts and own a strong 13-9 record in his 22 outings this season.

Given his success on the road, look for Suarez to lead the Red Sox to a victory in this one.

Under 7.5 total runs (-115)

While Boston's Suarez has been great on the road, Miami's Sandy Alcantara has been sensational at home.

He owns a 2.69 ERA and .201 BAA when pitching at LoanDepot Park this season. For comparison, he has a 4.11 ERA and .270 BAA to his name on the road.

Alcantara has also been in a groove lately. The veteran right-hander has allowed just four total earned runs on 18 hits over four starts and 26.0 innings in August.

The Red Sox have been mashing at the plate, leading the MLB in total runs scored so far this month. That gives Alcantara a tough challenge, but, with the way he is rolling, he should be able to limit the damage.

Suarez vs Alcantara creates a solid pitching matchup in which runs could be at a premium and that trend should continue once the bullpens start to get involved.

Boston's has been among the best in baseball all season long and currently leads MLB with an ERA of 2.90. Miami isn't too far behind, ranking 12th with a bullpen ERA of 3.92 and 6th with a WHIP of 1.24.

All in all, both lineups could have a tough time getting things going at the plate. With a total of 7.5, look to the under.
