Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers are set for the third and final game of their mid-week series on Thursday night at Dodger Stadium.
This will be the rubber match, as Seattle and Los Angeles have split the first two games of the series, with Bryan Woo toeing the rubber for the Mariners, while Roki Sasaki takes the ball for the Dodgers.
First pitch is set for 10:10 p.m. ET on MLB Network.
As a team, the Mariners have some pretty stark home/road splits. Seattle boasts a strong 30-23 record when playing at home, but is just 23-33 on the road.
Those road woes have also been extremely evident for starting pitcher Bryan Woo.
He is a much different pitcher on the road than at home. Woo owns a steady 2.20 from the comfort of T-Mobile Park, but that number jumps all the way up to 6.52 when pitching on the road.
Furthermore, Woo's BAA goes from .167 at home to a .304 on the road. He'll be on the road in this matchup against a dangerous Dodgers lineup, so Woo seems to be behind the 8-ball a bit in this one.
On the other side, Roki Sasaki has seen his fair share of ups-and-downs this season, but he seems to be finding a groove lately.
Over his last two starts, Sasaki has allowed just two earned runs on eight hits over the course of 12.2 innings of work.
The Dodgers have won each of his last four starts and, with Sasaki pitching with a bit more confidence right now, Los Angeles seems to be in a good position to find the win column in this interleague matchup.
Plus, LA's lineup is a lot more trustworthy than Seattle's. In the month of July, the Mariners rank 29th in MLB in terms of batting average (.220), and 28th in OPS (.652).
Playing at home, the Dodgers are the team to back on the moneyline.
Both offenses seem to have the edge in this one. As previously mentioned, the road has not been kind to Woo this season and things won't get any easier in this matchup against the most well-rounded lineup in baseball.
Furthermore, Woo has struggled no matter where he's been pitching over the last two months.
Woo entered the month of June with a solid 3.44 ERA on the season, but, after posting a 5.97 ERA in June and a 5.63 ERA so far in July, his ERA on the season now sits at 4.37.
He's allowed 24 hits through 16.0 innings of work in July and now he has to face a Dodgers lineup that leads all of baseball in team batting average (.262) and OPS (.774).
Sasaki has been better lately, but he can still be a bit untrustworthy. He still owns a 4.60 ERA when pitching at home, and opposing hitters own a strong .791 OPS against him on the season.
The Mariners shouldn't be expected to go crazy at the plate, but they should be able to earn enough runs to take this one over the listed total.
