The Kansas City Current (16-9-5, 53 points) finished fourth in the NWSL this season and earned home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They'll be facing Angel City FC (15-8-7, 52 points), who finished just behind them and earned the fifth seed entering the playoffs.
Kansas City are led by Malawian forward Temwa Chawinga, who missed part of the season yet still scored 12 goals and contributed four assists in 19 matches. Chawinga is a two-time NWSL MVP (2024, 2025) and led the league in scoring during both of those seasons. If MVP Chawinga shows up on matchday, Angel City will need to bring their A-game defensively.
Angel City have gone ten matches unbeaten, winning eight to end the regular season. They are a very well rounded team, but are led by USWNT players Ally Sentnor and Giselle Thompson, along with forward Sveindís Jónsdóttir and attacking midfielder Maiara Niehues. Jónsdóttir scored 10 goals this season, which was the most on the team. Niehues found the net nine times, and Sentnor added eight more.
