Frances Tiafoe vs. Matteo Arnaldi Prediction, Pick & Odds for the French Open 4th Round

A place in the French Open quarterfinals is on the line as Frances Tiafoe looks to continue his resurgence on clay against unseeded Matteo Arnaldi on Monday.

Tiafoe, long considered more dangerous on hard courts and grass, has reproduced the form that took him to a last-eight meeting with Lorenzo Musetti at Roland Garros in 2025.

His heavy forehand, improved patience in long rallies and willingness to construct points have carried him into the second week, where he will again meet an Italian opponent.

Arnaldi, meanwhile, has been one of the surprise packages of this year’s French Open.

The 25-year-old has combined fearless baseline aggression with superb movement, taking out No.29 seed Tallon Griekspoor and former Roland Garros finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas en route to the third round.

There, he battled back from 2-1 down to beat the higher-ranked Raphael Collignon in a marathon five-setter that lasted almost five hours.

After seeing off Eliot Spizzirri and Hubert Hurkacz in the opening rounds, Tiafoe was involved in a testy clash against qualifier Jaime Faria late into Saturday night.

The American came from two sets down to clinch his place in round four and is the favorite to progress on Monday.

Frances Tiafoe vs. Matteo Arnaldi betting picks and predictions

Frances Tiafoe to Win & Over 38.5 Total Games (+225)

Tiafoe has been a much-improved force on clay for the past two years. He overcame wily dirtballers Pablo Carreno Busta and Daniel Altmaier on the path to the quarters a year ago and took a set off Musetti, who subsequently troubled Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals.

He won 11 matches on the surface last year and has already racked up seven clay victories this season after reaching the semis in Houston early last month.

His serve has been reliable, his forehand has produced consistent depth, and his shot tolerance has improved dramatically — a key factor on the slow Paris clay.

In his third‑round win, Tiafoe won 79% of first‑serve points and converted eight of his 15 break points on Faria’s serve.

He did, however, lose to Arnaldi in straight sets when they faced off in Madrid last year.

The Italian is certainly playing well enough to push this match deep. The San Remo native has been superb in long exchanges, using his speed and early ball‑taking to rush opponents.

His five‑set victory in the previous round showcased his stamina and mental toughness.

Even if Tiafoe ultimately prevails, Arnaldi’s form suggests this will not be a quick match. Their contrasting styles — Tiafoe’s power and creativity versus Arnaldi’s consistency and counterpunching — should produce long sets and momentum swings.

A four‑set or even five‑set battle feels likely, pushing the total comfortably beyond 38.5 games.

1st Set Total Games – Over 10.5 (+200)

Both players have served exceptionally well throughout the tournament. Tiafoe has been winning free points with his improved kick serve out wide, while Arnaldi has held serve in 63 of his last 69 service games in Paris.

Their playing styles also lend themselves to tight early sets. Tiafoe often starts matches by feeling out his opponent, while Arnaldi tends to settle quickly and protect his serve with high‑percentage patterns.

The opening set in their first-ever encounter, at Wimbledon in 2024, went to a tie-break and the score in their last match in Madrid was 6-3 7-5.

Given their current form, an early break for either player feels unlikely. Expect a long opening set, potentially decided by a late break or a tiebreak.

Tiafoe to Win From Behind (+450)

While Tiafoe enters the contest as the slight favorite, Arnaldi has shown enough quality to take at least a set — and potentially dominate the opening exchanges.

The American started slowly against Faria and soon found himself in a 0-2 hole, having also trailed to Hurkacz in the previous round.

Tiafoe’s level can fluctuate, especially in long matches. If he experiences one of his trademark dips, Arnaldi is well‑equipped to capitalise.

The Italian has clinched the opening set in each of his last two matches, but has been unable to consolidate that early lead by taking the second on both occasions.

Tiafoe’s power and improved clay‑court discipline should give him enough of an edge to pull through, possibly in the same circumstances as his round three comeback over Faria, and that makes the win from behind option worthwhile in Monday’s matchup.
