Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws From Wimbledon

Last month, Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the upcoming French Open due to a wrist injury.

On Tuesday, he announced on social media that his injury will also force him to miss the Wimbledon, which happens in late June.

"My recovery is going well and I feel much better," Alcaraz wrote on X. "Unfortunately I'm still not ready to be able to play, and that's why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen's and Wimbledon. They are two really special tournaments for me and I'll miss them a lot. We keep working to return as soon as possible!"

Alcaraz had gotten off to a terrific start in 2026, winning the Australian Open in January and subsequently claiming the Qatar Open in February.

After playing in the Indian Wells, Miami Open, and Monte Carlo Masters, Alcaraz played his first match at the Barcelona Open on Apr. 14 where he received a medical timeout to treat his arm towards the end of the first set.

He would go on to win the match in straight sets, but he later announced his withdrawal from the rest of the tournament with an unspecified wrist injury, then made his statement about missing the French Open.

At this stage of his career, the 23-year-old made the decision with his future in mind. He essentially said that there's no need to rush back from an injury with such a long career in front of him.

Alcaraz is Jannik Sinner's main competitor - the World No. 1 ranked player currently. Sinner needs a title at the French Open to secure a career Grand Slam and is a heavy favorite to win it with Alcaraz sidelined.

Sinner is -350 to win the French Open, and is now -225 to win the Wimbledon after Alcaraz's announcement.

The attention surrounding Alcaraz will now shift to his availability for the US Open in early September where he'll look to defend his 2025 title.
