Cameron Boozer and the Memphis Grizzlies play their fourth game of the NBA Summer League tonight against the Atlanta Hawks in Las Vegas.
Boozer, the No. 3 overall pick out of Duke, has played well in the first few games of the preseason tournament. His efficiency, passing ability, rebounding, and shooting have all been put on full display for the high-floor prospect.
He dropped 23/6/4 in his Vegas debut last week against Caleb Wilson and the Chicago Bulls, then put up 21/8/3 in his second game against the Dallas Mavericks. He struggled more in the third and most recent game against Yaxel Lendeborg and the Golden State Warriors, putting up 12/7/3 while shooting 4-12 from the field.
Boozer has been selective with his shots and he'll grow to become more confident calling his own number as he ages, but it's already clear that he'll be the go-to offensive hub in the regular season. He's shown off a terrific feel in post-up situations, knowing when to shoot and when to pass. He can hit cutters or make the skip pass to an open shooter in the corner, reminiscent of some of Nikola Jokic's passes from the post.
Today his primary matchup will be against fellow rookie Henri Veesaar, a 7-foot center out of North Carolina who played against Duke and Boozer twice in college last season. The two physical big-men battled and each won a game, but Boozer played masterfully in both games, finishing with 24+ points in each while grabbing 11+ rebounds and shooting well from the field.
