Brandon Marsh: Injury Update & Potential Return Date for Phillies Outfielder

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh was held out of the lineup on Wednesday, May 27th against the San Diego Padres after suffering a right middle finger strain.

Marsh was injured when he dove back to first base on a pickoff move. Wearing a sliding mitt on his left hand, his right middle finger jammed into the base.

However, the injury doesn't seem very serious and the Phillies believe that Marsh will be back for the start of the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, May 29th.

Phillies manager Don Mattingly said that Marsh could have played on Wednesday, but when considering Thursday's off-day, Mattingly felt that giving him two days off rather than risking a further injury made sense.

After the game, Marsh light-heartedly said "I'm gonna go double now," when referring to wearing sliding mitts on both hands. "That's the plan...probably ride with double until the end of the season."

Marsh has had a wonderful season for a Philadelphia team that has gone 19-8 since appointing Mattingly to manager. His .326 batting average is second-best in MLB, and his .836 OPS is the best of his career.

The 28-year-old has brought some stability to an outfielder group that has Justin Crawford and Adolis Garcia as the only other true OFs on the current 40-man roster.

Philadelphia can't really afford to lose Marsh for an extended period of time, and luckily, it looks like he won't be. Expect his beard to be back in the lineup on Friday vs. L.A.
