The Boston Red Sox are the hottest team in the MLB, and own the franchises second longest win streak.
The Red Sox win streak has reached 14 games, and is the first such streak in Boston's history since 1946.
The Red Sox surpassed their second longest win streak (13 games) with a victory over the Orioles last night, and are one game away from tying the longest win streak in the history of the team. Boston won 15 consecutive games eighty years ago with a team led by the legendary Ted Williams.
Boston tied their second longest win streak by completing a four game series sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. Sonny Gray (12-1) gave up one run and five hits in the fourth game of the series, and has not allowed more than three runs since April 14th.
The Red Sox then beat that streak by winning a 14th consecutive game thanks to a go-ahead home run off the bat of Caleb Durbin in the eighth inning to win 6-5 against Baltimore on Monday night.
Willson Contreras has been the leading force in Boston for the win streak. Contreras is batting .286 with four home runs and 11 RBI during the win streak.
Wilyer Abreu and Ceddane Rafaela have also been major contributors. Abreu has 14 hits, five home runs and 14 runs scored, and Rafaela has 17 hits, and 10 runs scored during the 14-game win streak.
The Washington Nationals dominated the Sox by a combined score of 18-3 across two games on June 30th and July 1st, but Boston has since completed sweeps against the Angels, White Sox, Mets, and Rays.
The Red Sox will now enter a three game series against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.
