The New York Giants hired John Harbaugh today, but eight teams are still without a head coach, including the Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons are joined with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns, and Arizona Cardinals as the head coach-less teams in the NFL.
We'll focus on the potential candidates for the Falcons and the odds associated with each coach below.
Klint Kubiak | +100 |
Kevin Stefanski | +400 |
Mike McDaniel | +600 |
Mike McCarthy | +700 |
Brian Flores | +800 |
Jeff Hafley | +2000 |
Robert Saleh | +2000 |
Mike LaFleur | +2200 |
Mike Tomlin | +2200 |
Antonio Pierce | +2500 |
In a list filled with "Mike's," it's Klint Kubiak who is the odds on favorite to land with the Falcons (+100).
Kubiak, the son of Super Bowl winning head coach Gary Kubiak and the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, has worked his way up the ranks and looks to be ready to become a head coach.
With the young Michael Penix Jr. at quarterback, it would make sense to have an offensive mind at head coach. Kubiak has established a dynamic passing game in Seattle that would travel nicely to Atlanta.
Two recently fired head coaches - Kevin Stefanski (+400) and Mike McDaniel (+600) are next up on the list. Both are also offensive-minded head coaches with Stefanski having more experience as a head coach.
McDaniel would put in a creative offense where players like Bijan Robinson and Drake London will be put in terrific situations, while Stefanski may provide more stability to an organization trying to stabilize itself.
Speaking of stability, former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is fourth in the odds at +700. McCarthy's teams have a high floor and he could steer the ship in the right direction.
Three defensive minds (Brian Flores at +800, Jeff Hafley at +2000 and Robert Saleh at +2000) are in the top-seven. Each are deserving of another head coaching opportunity after their respective defenses overperformed based on talent.
Flores and Saleh would bring a fiery personality and attitude to the team, while Hafley seems to be more grounded. If they do choose the defensive head coach route, Atlanta would have to find an elite offensive coordinator to unlock the talented unit.
Rounding out the top ten are Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur (+2200), former Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin (+2200), and former Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce (+2500).
