Ashton Jeanty suffered an ankle injury during practice on Sunday (8/23) and was unable to walk off the field under his own power, but has luckily avoided a major injuries.
The Las Vegas Raiders stated that Jeanty's injury is not expected to be long-term, but speculation is that he has a sprained ankle.
Jeanty suffered the injury by landing awkwardly after diving to catch a pass. The second-year was then helped off the field by the training staff as the rest of the team took a knee and said a prayer for their star running back.
Jeanty is coming off a rookie season in which he record 975 rushing yards, 346 receiving yards, and five total touchdowns. His production in 2026 was expected to increase with an improved offensive line and a new offensive minded head coach, Klint Kubiak.
The Raiders declined to speak about Jeanty's injury after practice, and a more specific timeline is expected to to be announced this week.
It's a possibility that Jeanty misses at least week one of the NFL season against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, September 13th. If he suffered a high ankle sprain, he'll likely spend 4-8 weeks on sidelines depending on the severity of the injury.
If Jeanty is not fit to start week one, expect rookie Mike Washington Jr. to be the featured back for the Kubiak and the Raiders.
Washington was selected by Las Vegas in the fourth round (122nd overall) of the 2026 NFL Draft. He rushed for 1,070 yards and eight touchdowns at Arkansas last season and has impressed the Raiders coaching staff during the preseason.
