The Los Angeles Dodgers (42-23) will be trying to finish off a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels (24-41) when these two teams meet one more time on Sunday at Dodger Stadium. After taking the series opener 1-0, the defending World Series champions brought out the bats for a 9-2 romp on Saturday.
With Sunday’s contest set for 4:10 pm ET, it’s time to break down the matchup and discuss the best bets to make.
As usual, the Los Angeles story is a much different one for the city’s two MLB representatives. The Dodgers are the second-best team in baseball, trailing only Atlanta in the standings. At the other end of the spectrum are the Angels, who are tied with Colorado for the worst record in the entire league.
When you have given up the third-most runs in Major League Baseball (337), your bats better pick up the slack. Unfortunately for the visitors, that has not been the case so far in this series. They have scored only two runs through two games while collecting a grand total of six hits.
The Angels’ struggles at the plate could continue against Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan, who is 3-2 with a 1.16 WHIP and a 62-to-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 58.0 innings. Sheehan has been especially strong of late, with three quality starts in his past four appearances.
The righty has given up more than two runs only twice in his last eight outings and he has not allowed more than four on any occasion in 2026. The current Halos lineup is 1-for-14 (.071) lifetime against Sheehan with zero extra-base hits.
There is at least some good news for the Angels on Sunday: Jose Soriano is taking the mound. Soriano has been the team’s main – and perhaps only – bright spot this season, boasting a 6-4 record with a 2.72 ERA and 85 strikeouts through 76.0 innings.
Some control issues earlier this year notwithstanding, the right-hander has been outstanding against the Dodgers’ current lineup. Dodgers hitters are 5-for-37 (.135) all time against Soriano with zero extra-base knocks and 11 strikeouts.
Both offenses have been inconsistent and neither performed well on Friday, when the Dodgers prevailed 1-0. The home team’s bats woke up on Saturday, but the Angels remained silent.
Count on the visitors being stymied again in the series finale, and the Dodgers probably won’t be able to do enough heavy lifting against Soriano to take this game over the number.
Freddie Freeman has a favorable matchup with the right-handed Soriano. The all-star first baseman is batting .295 against right-handers this season with eight home runs and 29 RBIs compared to .235 with two homers and six RBIs against lefties.
Moreover, Freeman is enjoying a stellar run of hitting. Through two games in this series, the 36-year-old is 3-for-5 with a homer. He has delivered multi-hit performances in three of the last five contests, including a 3-for-5 efffort earlier this week against Arizona.
