The New Orleans Saints will be out of one of their biggest offensive weapons, Alvin Kamara has been ruled out with a knee injury.
Kamara has been a central piece of the Saints' offense throughout his career, providing a consistent threat both as a runner and pass-catcher out of the backfield. Despite being sidelined by knee and ankle injuries and appearing in a career-low 11 games last season, the 31-year-old remains a vital component of the New Orleans Saints offense this year.
His absence creates a challenge for New Orleans, with the season opener against the Lions just 25 days away.
Alvin Kamara suffered a sprained MCL in Tuesday's joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys.
The five-time Pro Bowl running back is expected to be out for at least a month. The Saints have not yet announced a return date.
With Alvin Kamara sidelined, the Saints will have to reshuffle their running back depth chart. Travis Etienne Jr., a key signing from March who spent five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, is expected to step into the primary role.
While Kendre Miller and Devin Neal could also see increased opportunities as New Orleans looks to fill the production left behind by its veteran star.
