Will Jacory Croskey-Merritt Play in Week 1 vs. Eagles?

Jacory Croskey-Merritt is questionable to play for the Commanders against the Eagles on Sunday.

Washington Commanders running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt missed the entire preseason while dealing with a groin injury. Although he is listed as questionable, he is trending towards playing in the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Croskey-Merritt was a revelation last season for a team that struggled significantly. Selected in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the former Arizona Wildcat was the final running back chosen, largely due to concerns regarding his thin frame. The player, nicknamed "Bill," then led the Commanders with 805 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, despite inconsistent usage.

The 25-year-old is expected to lead the Washington backfield again under new offensive coordinator David Blough, with veteran Rachaad White primarily serving as a passing-down back and rookie Kaytron Allen providing depth.

Croskey-Merritt added significant muscle during the offseason to better handle the physicality of the NFL both rushing and pass blocking, but time will tell if he can showcase that extra strength against the ferocious Eagles defense in Week 1.

Will Jacory Croskey-Merritt Play on Week 1?

The second-year running back was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday (September 9) due to a lingering groin injury, but he is trending towards playing on Sunday.

Given that he has not been able to log a full practice four days before the opening game, there is a chance that he could either miss the match or be limited in his snaps.

Should he log a full practice before the game, fans and fantasy football managers should expect Croskey-Merritt to suit up.
