A'ja Wilson Injury Update: MVP Ruled Out for Commissioner's Cup Final

4x MVP A'ja Wilson has delivered another MVP-caliber season as the WNBA season reaches the halfway mark, but she'll have to sit in the team's biggest game of the year thus far.

Wilson will miss the Commissioner's Cup championship game against the New York Liberty after she rolled her ankle in the fourth quarter of the Las Vegas Aces' victory against the Chicago Sky on Sunday. She ended up returning that game, and finished with 30 points and 15 rebounds, but the injury flared up after the game and Wilson was subsequently ruled out of the next game.

"I think there's something to be said for when you're in the moment, you got some adrenaline, the joints are all very warmed up," Aces' head coach Becky Hammon said on Tuesday, per ESPN. "It's when you get off the court that you realize you probably tweaked it a little worse than you originally thought."

The Aces are not used to their superstar being sidelined - Wilson has missed just 14 games in her nine-year career, and thankfully, she won't be out for long. While the Commissioner's Cup championship is prestigious, it's not something that worth risking an injury for.

Wilson leads the WNBA in scoring at 25.7 points per game, while also averaging 9.4 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. She's the best offensive player and the best defensive player in the league, but the Aces will be looking to win their second Cup without her this time.

When Could A'ja Wilson Return?

Wilson's ankle injury isn't serious - Hammon and the Aces are expecting her to return later this week. After the Cup championship game, the Aces play the Sky at home on Friday and the Fever at home on Sunday. Expect A'ja to be back for one of those games.
