Wrexham and Wolves are reportedly in the hunt to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.
Patterson was part of the Sunderland squad that were promoted from League One in the 2021/22 season, before playing a starring role as the club secured promotion to the Premier League in the 2024/25 campaign.
He lost in place in the Sunderland team following the signing of Robin Roefs from Dutch side NEC last summer and he was subsequently loaned out to Millwall in January.
Patterson featured 14 times for the Lions as they secured a play-off place but they eventually came unstuck against Hull City in the semi-finals.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has suggested that Sunderland will listen to offers of at least £8 million for their back-up goalkeeper this summer.
While Millwall are keen to secure the permanent signing of Patterson, they will face plenty of competition from other Championship clubs.
The £8 million fee is unlikely to be a problem for Wolves as they prepare for life in the second-tier and they are looking for reinforcements following a dismal Premier League campaign.
Wrexham are also in the market for a new goalkeeper to challenge Arthur Okonkwo for the number one jersey, but such a fee is likely to mean that Okonkwo would have to play second fiddle next season.
Rangers have also previously shown an interest in Patterson but the transfer fee could scupper any hopes they have of signing the Sunderland stopper.
Patterson is a goalkeeper who possesses excellent shot-shopping and the ability to command his area, but his playing time at the Stadium of Light is likely to be minimal even with the addition of European football.
