How Hearts can win the Scottish Premiership title against Falkirk tonight

Following four decades of Old Firm dominance, Hearts find themselves in pole position to secure their first Scottish league title since 1960.

A comeback triumph over Rangers marked a seismic moment in a compelling title race as second half goals from Stephen Kingsley and Lawrence Shankland restored Hearts' three-point advantage over Celtic at the summit, but that lead has since been reduced after Hearts were held to a 1-1 draw against Motherwell at the weekend.

They remain a point ahead of second placed Celtic however, and it means with two fixtures remaining, Hearts' Scottish Premiership fate is in their own hands.

You would have to rewind back to 1985 for the last time a non-Glasgow club was crowned champions of Scotland and following a 41-year period dominated by the supremacy of Celtic and Rangers, the Scottish Premiership title might finally be liberated from Old Firm authority.

An absorbing three-way battle became a two horse race when Celtic defeated Glasgow rivals Rangers to eliminate them from the title fight on Sunday afternoon.

Derek McInnes' side will be taking nothing for granted as they approach the final two hurdles of the season, and we've taken a look at what need to happen for Heart to bring the trophy back to Tynecastle on Wednesday night when they play Falkirk.

How Hearts can win the league at home to Falkirk

Hearts will be crowned Scottish champions if they defeat Falkirk and Celtic lose to Motherwell in Gameweek 37, with both fixtures set to be played at 20:00 BST on Wednesday 13th May.

Should this happen, then Hearts can expect a guard of honour from their final day opponents at Celtic Park.

The Jambos' hopes will be lifted by the fact that they will welcome Falkirk to Tynecastle Park, while Martin O'Neill's side travel to Motherwell's home of Fir Park, where they lost 2-0 back in December.

If both Hearts and Celtic emerge victorious on Wednesday night, then the title will be decided on the final day. McInnes' side would need to avoid defeat in Glasgow to clinch a fifth league title, while Celtic would need to earn maximum points to win a record-breaking 56th top-flight honour.
