Check out the latest odds for Eddie Howe to be Manchester United manager on 1st January 2027.
Michael Carrick's days as Manchester United manager appear to be numbered as the club's dismal start to the season continues.
United were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth on Sunday, with the Old Trafford faithful making their feelings clear towards the players following the full-time whistle.
Despite Carrick receiving a show of support from the fans in attendance it appears his position is untenable with United currently languishing in 16th in the Premier League table, their worst start in top flight season in over 40 years.
With the club hierarchy determined to improve results a number of managers have been floated as potential successors, though it appears former Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is the leading candidate.
Eddie Howe - 4/7
Eddie Howe is now the odds-on favourite to be the Manchester United manager at the start of 2027.
Howe's five-year stint in charge at Newcastle came to an end this summer and the 48-year-old indicated that he would take a break from football before returning to the dugout.
However, the allure of managing one of the biggest clubs in world football may simply prove too much to ignore.
Reports from the i Paper claim that Howe is the preferred choice of United director of football Jason Wilcox, with his extensive Premier League experience said to be a key factor.
Howe would also likely have the backing of INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Since his purchase of a minority stake of the club was confirmed in 2024 Ratcliffe has overseen sporting operations at the club.
The 74-year-old has long favoured United having an English manager in charge, and was reported to have championed the club appointing Gareth Southgate in 2024 before they eventually went with Ruben Amorim.
Unsurprisingly given the enemority of the role a number of other top managers have been linked with the job.
The likes of Unai Emery, Antonio Conte, Julian Nagelsmann and Cesc Fabregas have all been linked with United, who remain in the UEFA Champions League knockout phase places despite winning just one of their three European games so far this season.
