Fabian Hurzeler is reportedly happy to remain at Brighton and is not interested in leaving for Manchester United should an approach be made.
Following a 4-1 defeat at Como on Wednesday night, speculation has continued around Michael Carrick's future, with the former Red Devils midfielder seemingly heading for the exit sooner rather than later.
One of the things keeping him in a job is the lack of suitable alternatives. While replacing Ruben Amorim with Carrick in January felt like an instant upgrade, there are risks with the apparent contenders.
One of the names linked with the job should it come available is Hurzeler, whose list of admirers continues to grow with the impressive work he's doing on the south coast.
But talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs posted on X on Thursday afternoon: "Fabian Hurzeler is not interested in leaving Brighton for Manchester United.
"Hurzeler one of the names appreciated in case Michael Carrick departs."
It would likely force Manchester United to look at the currently unemployed managers, though the club presumably have reservations about the top candidates.
Eddie Howe's demonstrated his ceiling at Newcastle, and with Manchester United already juggling European and domestic commitments, it's unlikely the 48-year-old would have a significant impact in the short-term.
The combustible Antonio Conte is also available but represents an enormous risk given the off-field state of the club and Conte's habit of falling out with his bosses.
Then there's Julian Nagelsmann, who's been strongly linked with United in the last 24 hours, though the nature of his departure from Bayern Munich would raise concerns about his man management skills.
