West Ham have completed the signing of Joel Piroe from Leeds United on an initial loan with obligation to buy.
The Hammers have been on the hunt for a new centre forward throughout the summer as they look to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
The departure of Callum Wilson had left the club thin on the ground in terms of out-and-out strikers, with Taty Castellanos leading the line as they drew 2-2 in their Championship opener against Burnley.
With Castellanos' future at the London Stadium still uncertain, Nuno Espirito Santo has moved to bring in additional attacking options and on Wednesday the club announced the signing of Piroe.
The 27-year-old has joined on an initial season-long loan, with the deal including an obligation for West Ham to make the transfer permanent next summer.
Speaking following his unveiling Piroe detailed his ambition to help the club climb back into the top flight.
"I see West Ham as a Club that really wants to be in the Premier League, and I think should be in the Premier League." The Suriname international told the West Ham website.
"With my experience, I think I can help the club a lot to achieve what they want to achieve, and I think it’s a good opportunity for me to show what I’ve learnt and how I’ve grown as a football player over the years."
Piroe departs Leeds following three seasons in West Yorkshire in which he netted 34 goals in 118 games in all competitions.
His goals were integral to their promotion-winning campaign in 2024-25 and he finished as the club's top scorer as Daniel Farke's side topped the table with 100 points.
Piroe's involvement was limited significantly last season after Leeds signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin however, and he made just two Premier League starts as the club recovered from an early season slump to avoid the drop.
