USA odds to win the World Cup

The United States have historically flattered to deceive on the world stage but they look primed to make a run on home soil this summer.

After finishing third in the inaugural World Cup back in 1930, the USMNT have struggled to compete with the best teams from Europe and South America.

After managing just a single win the first time they hosted the tournament in 1994, the USA managed their best-ever performance eight years later - reaching the quarter-finals before being to eventual finalists Germany.

With the 2026 final set to be played at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, American fans will be hoping their team can do the unthinkable and go all the way this summer.

Placed in Group D alongside Paraguay, Australia, and Turkey, the United States will be confident of progressing beyond the group stage for a second successive tournament and they are currently priced at 11/8 to win their group.

With experienced manager Mauricio Pochettino at the helm the USA reached the final of the 2025 Gold Cup where they faced their 2026 World Cup co-hosts Mexico.

At the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas they enjoyed a dream start after Crystal Palace defender Chris Richards opened the scoring after just four minutes but they were eventually undone following goals from Raul Jimenez and Edson Alvarez.

The impressive run of form continued throughout the remainder of 2025 as the USMNT went unbeaten in five friendlies, capping the year off with an impressive 5-1 thrashing of Uruguay in November.

Results since then have failed to inspire confidence, however.

After being beaten 5-2 by Belgium in March, the US suffered defeats against Portugal and Germany but did claim a 3-2 win over Senegal last month.

No American has ever won the World Cup Golden Boot, and the trio of Christian Pulisic, Folarin Balogun and Haji Wright are all priced at 100/1 to do so this summer.
