UEFA Euro 2016 Top Goalscorers

Check out the top ten goalscorers from the 2016 UEFA European Championship as Portugal secured victory for the first time.

Spain entered the tournament as the two-time defending champions but Vicente del Bosque was unable to replicate his success for a record third time as La Roja were dumped out at the round of 16 stage by Italy.

Meanwhile England attempted to reassert themselves as a major power on the continent after unceremoniously failing to progress beyond the group stage at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Roy Hodgson's side progressed through the group stage unbeaten, but lackluster draws against Russia and Slovakia served as a clear indication that the Three Lions were in the midst of a transitory phase from the so-called 'Golden Generation'.

Even so, few could have predicted just how ignominious England's exit from the tournament could be.

A tie with minnows Iceland at the round of 16 phase appeared to be little more than a formality but goals from Ragnar Sigurdsson and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson condemned them to a humiliating defeat.

While the tournament marked a historic low for England, the same could not be said for fellow Home Nation Wales, as they enjoyed a fairytale run to the semi-finals, picking up a famous win over Belgium in the last eight before being halted by the eventual winners.

Two of the goalscorers for Portugal that day were former Manchester United team-mates Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Nani, both of whom would feature on the tournament's list of top goalscorers.
