Long-time Chris Wilder assist Alan Knill has been sensationally sacked by the Sheffield United ownership, less than nine months after returning to the club.
61-year-old Knill has been associated with Wilder for over 10 years, working alongside him at clubs including Northampton Town, Bury, Middlesbrough, Watford and Sheffield United.
The surprising news comes after the Blades suffered a disappointing Championship season last time out, finishing 13th in the league, 13 points shy of the play-offs positions.
Knill only returned to the club for a third time as assistant to Wilder in September 2025, following the short reign of Ruben Selles, who was sacked after losing his first six league games on the bounce.
It appears as though the hierarchy at Brammall Lane have decided against a managerial change this summer, instead opting for a fresh approach on the training ground moving forward, with younger coaches Micky Collins and Guilherme Ramos touted to have more influence next season.
The Sheffield Star reports that Knill was said to be shocked when the club delivered the news, and his immediate future in football looks unclear.
The former Rotherham United manager hasn't managed in the game since being sacked by Torquay in 2014.
